Ch.1: Captial Trouble
With the city torn up by days of Ork fighting, it was of little surprise that the conventional way of getting to the Governor's palace would be difficult. But for Sargent Barros and his Reiver squad they made good on their promise to the Captain. Their grapnels had made it easy getting to the Capital Spire and indeed into the heart of the Governor's seat of power.
The squad fanned out. Searching for any clues or intel on the Governor's whereabouts. This had surprised the Crimson Fists, they had expected that if they should find survivors, they would have a glorious, brave leader commanding the war efforts. Instead, the best they had was Colonel Galen who by all accounts had performed admirably. Now the Captain was in charge, and his thirst for information was unquenchable. The Astartes were in the dark about the realms outside of Exilium. They needed to know the hows, the whens, the possible why. An Ork invasion doesn't just pop up.
Techamarine Gonzalez had been running the local datastreams as the Crimson Fists reinforced the City. Not one orbital defence cannon had been fired in the past five weeks. They were still in working order and no record of orbital intrusion in the last siz months. There was no way this amount of Orks could stowaway undetected on civilian craft, could they? Salbatore was the first to shout down that theory, Orks were destructive by nature and their ways entirely alien. It was something else and the answers would be found on Krillion.
This was why Barros was snooping around in the quarters of the Governor's palace, if they could local the Governor's whereabouts, they'd be a step closer to finding out why Krillion was in this sorry mess. Barros had his own theory developing. The Governor was a turncoat, a coward fleeing the planet before things got dire - the only hole in his speculation was that all the evidence in the city supported the fact that no one was ready, there was no warning, the Orks...just happened.
Still, Barros thought, maybe the Governor and his lackeys were tipped off... Brother-Jozae 's icon flashed in his Helm Screen, he blinked to acknowledge "I'll be right there."
Dashing across the halls, Sergeant Barros found Jozae in a sleeping quarter, not the Governor's, it smelt sweet like the honey leaves found on Zeltus VI. A huge writing desk dominated the room.
"Sargeant, I found these in the draw, a ticket and an accompanying note"
Another icon flickered in Barros helm, another of his squad have found something. "Report" he ordered as he took in the information on the ticket and analysed the handwriting on the note.
" Sergeant, I've discovered files. It would seem the Governor was investigate a number of things occurring on Krillion, Sektoris Docks, a place called Mengnar, something in Suania..."
"Secure those files, the Captain will want to see those immediately." Barros had his visor take a data-pict of the items on the table. "Governor Kingswood has been a busy man indeed..."
